TCOTD: Michael Vick in Purple in 2009?
Posted on October 22nd, 2008 – 1:53 PMBy Michael Rand
Tuna Can sends along a link to an ESPN article on Michael Vick and adds these words: “Your 2009 opening day MN Vikings quarterback.” The connection is obvious only in the sense that the Vikings need an upgrade at QB and Vick will theoretically be available. That said, he wouldn’t be a very good fit for whatever offense Brad Childress is having this team run. Then again, who knows if the current regime will be around next year. The big questions for you: would you want Vick on this team? And would your opinion change if he proved that he was playing at a high level?

DO NOT WANT!
Please, Daddy, keep the bad man out of Minnesota!
You don’t think he has spent the last 2 years studying the “west coast” offense to make sure he is ready?
That being said, no. We need a QB, not another RB.
We already have a worthless #7
I wouldn’t have an inherent problem with him coming to MN–he will have served his time and completed his punishment by that time–but I just don’t think he’s that good a quarterback.
At his best, he’s a smaller, faster version of Daunte Culpepper. He’ll be about 29 by the time he gets out, and we all know that “mobile” quarterbacks start to have real trouble as they take a few injuries (like Vick has) and get older (like Vick is). Vick never demonstrated the football intelligence or skills to turn into an effective pocket passer, like Randall Cunningham, which says to me that he’ll just turn into what Culpepper is now.
Finally, getting someone like Vick won’t solve the pass defense, wide receiver, or special teams problems that the Vikings are having. While a franchise QB would be nice, the second coming of Joe Montana wouldn’t turn our receivers into the second coming of Jerry Rice either.
I feel sick.
I must go now.
Wait, you say he isn’t a good fit for our offense? Sounds like this could actually happen then. He does wear #7 afterall.
I would love to see Michael Vick in Purple and Gold!
-Speaking for all Bears fans.
Rand, I don’t believe that the Vikings play what you might call “offense.” Prove it to me.
my pugs don’t live in MN so he can come.
Sage Rosenfels, Donovan McNabb, Kerry Collins, Jim Sorgi, Bruce Gradkowski, JT O’Sullivan, Kellen Clemens, JP Losman, Byron Leftwich, Derek Anderson and T-Jack are just a couple handfuls of quarterbacks I would rather see in purple than Michael Vick.
Vick couldn’t throw before he went to the slammer and he’s a raging [redacted]. What is the upside in bringing him in? T. Jack can’t throw either but at least he seems like he’d be nice to animals.
No way on Vick.
The post from Rand’s Pug made me laugh pretty hard. It was an easy joke, sure, but the timing and presentation were well executed. Reaks of P3’s handiwork.
I would be giving up my season tickets if this happened, something I reasonably should have done years ago.
As Chris Rock said: If Sarah Palin can shoot a moose from a helicopter, then why the hell is Michael Vick sill in Jail?
LOL, John the Gun Owner in South Dakota.
OH HELL NO
