The Mike Singletary era will be angry, pants-optional

singletary.JPGIf you weren’t fired up for the Mike Singletary era in San Francisco after his postgame meltdown after Game 1 last week, please do take note of this emerging story: the fired-up coach with the crazy linebacker eyes apparently dropped trou in the midst of a halftime tirade last week as well. If this doesn’t make the 49ers must-see TV the rest of the year, nothing will (and actually, nothing else will). From the SF Chronicle:

When his team hit the Candlestick Park locker room at halftime trailing the Seahawks 20-3, Singletary called everyone to attention, dropped his pants and pointed to his rear end, to fully illustrate what the coach thought of his players’ performance.

According to a report that first aired on Phoenix-area radio XTRA-910, Singletary then berated the team for three to four minutes with his pants around his ankles.

Singletary did not deny the stunt, which clearly didn’t work: The 49ers lost, 34-13.

“I used my pants to illustrate that we were getting our tails whipped on Sunday and how humiliating that should feel for all of us,” Singletary confirmed in a blog post on the 49ers’ Web site. “I needed to do something to dramatize my point; there were other ways I could have done it, but I think this got the message across.”

Loud and clear, Coach! That is your butt. That is what we are playing like. No more questions!

The only concerns we have are these: 1) Is he using up all his best material too soon? That is to say, where does he go from berating a player on the sidelines, chastising him in the press conference and dropping his pants at halftime? Is he going to have to suit up at linebacker or engage in some full frontal nudity on the Jumbotron to advance this story? 2) At what point would Roger Goodell step in and spoil this fun?
