Thursday (fantasy football) edition: Wha’ happened?
Posted on November 13th, 2008 – 9:19 AMBy Michael Rand
We have reached the point of the NFL and fantasy football seasons in which we must now look back at everything that went horribly wrong. By now, you are likely in one of three categories: 1) Bottom of the barrel with no hope thanks to unlucky/bad drafting and untimely/predictable injuries. 2) Middle of the pack thanks to decent drafting/luck and only an injury or two that you could overcome. 3) Top of the heap contender thanks to inordinate luck and perhaps savvy drafting. What this tells us, of course, is that fantasy football is a complete crapshoot (and we’re not just saying that because we are currently in category 2 in two leagues and category 1 in another). The more you play, the more you realize fortune and a few big swings mean everything. Hey, maybe it is really like football after all. But that realization has kept us from getting too wrapped up in it. As we have mentioned before, we’re pretty sure fantasy has hit is peak and is either teetering at the top or already on a decline. It’s just inevitable. Just ask poker. But for fun, here is a link to a preseason cheat sheet ranking the top 100 players. Go ahead and tell us the biggest busts, biggest surprises and what you would have done differently — and perhaps agonized over two months ago — if you could do the draft all over again right now.
Fasola-link! Maintaining power lines.
