Friday (NFL picks) edition: Wha’ Happened?
Posted on November 14th, 2008 – 9:02 AMBy Michael Rand
The year was 1994. We were headed back to the Twin Cities with a high school friend after a Thanksgiving weekend back in Grand Forks. It was our freshman year in college at the University of Minnesota. As we headed down I-94, a huge snowstorm hit, forcing us curtail our plans and stay the night in Sauk Centre. It was a Sunday, and seemingly the only saving grace was this meant we would be able to catch the end of the Vikings vs. Buccaneers game on the television. The Vikings, you might recall, were in the midst of their run of winning 10 or so games and then getting completely shellacked in the playoffs. The Buccaneers, of course, were terrible — except they always seemed to split with the Vikings. Sure enough, despite a late rally, the Vikings lost 20-17 in heartbreaking fashion to make a bad Sunday even worse. The moral of the story? We never pick the Vikings to beat Tampa Bay. Ever. Do you have any similar picking rules about the Vikings or any other team? Do tell. And now, the picks this week:
New York Jets at New England Patriots: We like the Jets in overtime. Call us crazy.
Baltimore Ravens at New York Giants: Eli Manning is shiny and costly.
Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers: A rout.
Denver Broncos at Atlanta Falcons: Starting at RB for Denver — Sammy Winder.
Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers: Dare to dream, winless Lions.
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts: Texans put the “less” in “hapless.”
Minnesota Vikings at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Remember, this was also the Vikings’ regular season loss in 1998.
New Orleans Saints at Kansas City Chiefs: KC in an upset.
Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins: Can Miami make the playoffs?
Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals: Eagles could over look this one … and still win.
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars: This is where it ends.
Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks : Buzzsaw!
St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers : Ick.
San Diego Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers: Big Ben. Parliament.
Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins: Return of Romo not enough.
Cleveland Browns at Buffalo Bills: The power of Brady.
