Notre Dame: Learning from the past or living a double-standard?
Posted on December 3rd, 2008 – 2:02 PMBy Michael Rand
Not to start beating an already well-struck drum, but:
Tyrone Willingham, three years at Notre Dame: 21-15 record (.583 winning percentage), two winning seasons, a Gator Bowl appearance, zero bowl game victories, fired after 6-5 record in 2004.
Charlie Weis, four years at Notre Dame: 28-21 record (.571 winning percentage), two winning seasons (his first two years, largely with Willingham’s players), zero bowl game victories, given the go-ahead to coach his fifth season today.

In a room somewhere Art Shell, Denny Green, and Jesse Jackson are planning their attack.
Regis Philbin will be in South Bend tomorrow to personally dismember Mr. Weis.
Strangely enough, Joker just named three better coaches than Charlie Weis.
So did UofM2010, for that matter.
I hope Regis has some time because it will take quite a while to dismember that fat slob.
Yawn. Slow news day?
Has the Williams Wall stormed the Supreme Court yet?
” hope Regis has some time because it will take quite a while to dismember that fat slob.”
Regis could always call Dave Wannstedt being he was the guy that did it to Mike Ditka.
On a half related note. Is there a more annoying fan than Dick Vitale? Not only is he attached to Duke at the hip but he was also eaten by Charlie Wies. How can a functioning human cheer for both Duke basketball and Notre Dame football?
To be fair Weis can still have a winning season this year, they still should have fired him.
If Willingham hadn’t sucked so badly after getting canned at the Dome, maybe the racial argument (i.e., his race was a factor in his firing) would hold a little water. But he went 11-36 at UW, for chrissakes. Charlie Weis may be morbidly obese and bumptious human being, but I still think he’s a way better coach than Ty.
How can you get that huge AFTER having gastric bypass?
jama,
Did you catch any of Vitale’s annoying call of the UNC/Michigan State game last night??? His other hip is attached to UNC. It was funny when Lawson (or someone similar) stole the ball and went in for a layup and got blocked from behind. All the while Vitale was saying “forget about it” as if the layup was a sure 2 points.. Made him sound like a complete moron..
