Weekend Links with Jon Marthaler
Posted on December 6th, 2008 – 11:33 AMBy Michael Rand
We didn’t have weekend links last week, because of Thanksgiving, and so the links have been piling up like Yule logs on the hearth. Let’s start burning a few, posthaste:
*Timely link of the week: Once again, Vikes Geek has a terrific take on the Williams Wall hearings — and he seems to think that, more than likely, neither tackle will be suspended yet this year.
*If you had to pick somebody to write 4,700 words about the Baseball Hall of Fame, wouldn’t it be Joe Posnanski?
*If you had to pick somebody to write 4,700 more about the Florida Gators offense — its genesis under Urban Meyer, his influences, and some technical commentary about how and why it works — wouldn’t it be Chris Brown of the Smart Football blog? (The first comment on that post says, simply, “dear god i love this blog”. I’d have to agree — if there’s a better pure football blog out there, I don’t know about it.)
*Required hockey links: First, Awful Announcing has the new NHL ad for the 2009 Winter Classic at Wrigley Field — featuring, of course, Harry Caray. Second, the wonderful Ms. Conduct blog directs us to the newest picture-caption entry: it’s the nhLOL blog! And in NBA vs. NHL news, Yahoo!’s Greg Wyshynski thinks the NHL is gaining; the Sports Media Watch blog isn’t so sure.
*And finally: I, for one, welcome our new Baby Mangino overlordsI
That’ll do it from here — if you’re in the Cities, enjoy your newfound three inches of snow. If you’re in Arizona or something, you’re clearly not suffering enough; go shovel the gravel out of your front yard, or something.

Baby Mangino makes me laugh every single time. I refuse to believe, however, that his real name is Bode Lubber.
Who’s the lucky SOB with the Wolves tickets tonight?
Brandon’s got ‘em. What a game …
I love the very first nhLOL with Barry Melrose re: Where’s the defense? Classic.
I just got back from an incredibly enjoyable (but equally incredibly cold) game of frisbee golf … adding only the obvious that he who escapes punishment is not necessarily innocent (as in O.J. Part One)
Yeah, uh, thanks for sharing.
RE: Wolves. Since this was probably Wittman’s last game as coach, can we start referring to last night’s Row X attendee as “Brandong: Witness to History?”
I can’t watch this.
I’ve always thought Childress made a good interim coach. He cleaned things up nicely and got a good core of players in place. It will be exciting to see who Wilf brings in; in the next couple weeks.
I just want clarification:
Are Stu and I in a one week survival matchup in the RBFFL? If so, I’m so glad I have Westbrook.
How long until P3 comes in with a Vikings rant even though the Pack just lost to the Texans? The over/under is at 7PM tonight.
On another note, T-Jack didn’t look so bad today did he? Do you guys think he might get a chance even if Gus is fine by next week?
I don’t know if it has been talked about or not, but the Williamses suspension might have an outcome on their playoff chances.
jama - This point has never been discussed. What do you mean? The Williamses might be suspended? And how could this possibly affect the Vikings?
I hear that Visanthe Shiancoe is as little as his presence was during his first year in MN.
