Friday (what we missed) edition: Wha’ Happened?
Posted on January 2nd, 2009 – 10:07 AMBy Michael Rand
New Year’s Day is a strange holiday. Many people have the day off from work. Many people wake up very glad about that. The day is spent in some sort of haze, which is really the perfect time to make a life-altering resolution. People eat at strange times (a restaurant we went to was absolutely packed at 2:30 p.m. yesterday). It used to be a great day for college football. Now it’s merely pretty good. Coming on a Thursday this year, 1-1-09 also made for a strange Friday. What do we make of this day? Are a lot of people turning this into a four-day weekend? Are those who aren’t doing that giving, at least, a minimal effort at work? We actually worked yesterday, meaning we are (sort of) taking today off in exchange. But enough blabber. Let’s get caught up on the world of sports:
*The Charles Barkley story got better and better. Open mouth. Insert foot. Or … um … er … never mind.
*The Marian Gaborik story got worse and worse.
*There are still 8,000 tickets left for Sunday’s Vikings/Eagles game. The deadline to sell them is this afternoon, though there exists the possibility that the Vikings could get another 24-hour extension from the league.
*Stephon Marbury: to the Celtics? Lizzy! We have a new topic!
*Thomas Jones earned a lifetime of free drinks and futon crashing at most greater Twin Cities homes.
Fasola-link! The business of texting.
Later today: (Hopefully) Ramon’s belated COW. It will be epic. Also, we check in with Mark Titus in advance of Ohio State’s game against the Gophers tomorrow. It will be festive.
