Monday (and so it goes) edition: Wha’ Happened?
Posted on January 5th, 2009 – 9:26 AMBy Michael Rand
After the frenzy of yesterday, there’s not much more to say about the Vikings/Eagles game. But as we were falling asleep, we did have a couple more thoughts: 1) We pictured a Vikings victory. Specifically, it was 27-21. Not sure why. We imagined all the different opinions people would have today compared to what they have now. We know that outcome was a very real possibility that obviously didn’t happen. And we were reminded, yet again, of the thin margin for error offered by sports and how some games form more lasting opinions than others. 2) We wondered if, in the grand scheme of things, it was just as well that the Vikings lost yesterday. In a sense, that sounds ridiculous. You don’t take trips to the postseason for granted; anytime a team gets in, it has a chance. But if ever a loss was going to expose a team’s shortcomings (QB and special teams, and to a lesser but still significant degree, in-game coaching and inconsistent offensive line play), this was it. Some positions need fixing, and some philosophies need some tweaking. Those things are more easily accomplished after disappointment. Drew summed it up well: “That game was depressingly predictable in every way.” Indeed. And now we will begin prepping for our short-shorts shame. And Drew. Well … yeesh.
If you find all of this too depressing or you have already moved on from yesterday’s debacle, please feel free to talk about your undying love for the Gophers men’s basketball team.
