TFD: Cuts, raises and, yes, another one of us

The talker of the day around these parts is, of course, the Clear Channel cuts that reached KFAN, where host Chad Hartman and producer Darren “Doogie” Wolfson have lost their jobs. Plenty of people have weighed in already on the news story — some with frustration, some with polite restraint, other with elk-flensing bloodlust. The bottom line: nobody should be happy that 1,850 jobs are going away.

*Another sign of the times: Stanford might have to cut some sports because of a shrinking budget. As the AP story notes: Last year, the university captured its 14th consecutive Division I U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup, a recognition presented each year to the best overall programs for each athletic division in the country.

*One way or another, though, Ryan Howard will be getting a raise from the $10 million he made last season. The Phillies slugger wants $18 million in arbitration; Philly has countered with a $14 million number.

*And finally, check out the finish to regulation from last night’s Blues/Bruins game. It heavily involves St. Louis forward David Backes, a former Spring Lake Park standout and therefore certainly OOU (one of us). (Via Deadspin).
