obama.jpgWithout getting overly political, we will say that today is a day many people have been looking forward to for a while, and it’s not simply about Barack Obama (pictured, dribbling around his man before kicking it to a wide open Mike Miller for a three-pointer … gah!). More than that, the changing of the presidential guard always represents a new beginning — and most people tend to love the idea of renewal, of a fresh chance, of the possibility of change.

In a way, it’s unfortunate that milestones such as these (and New Year’s, birthdays, etc.) are often the only times we think about improving ourselves, improving our world and shaking things up. The rest of the time is “living,” we suppose, and being constantly vigilant in an attempt to always be changing for the better could leave little time to breathe and be, at least, unsettling.

Overall, though, we’ve found the world lately to be a little short on dreams, hard work and accountability, while being a little long on not wanting to disrupt everyday personal comfort. If we have one hope, it’s that more people start to think big about the world and themselves on a more consistent basis.

What does that have to do with sports? When you are done thinking big about yourself and the world, start thinking big about sports. That’s your morning talker. If you could rip things up and start over with sports, what would you change, what would you keep and why? We’re not talking about tweaks to instant replay or three-point lines here. We’re talking wholesale, fundamental changes. Completely change the salary structures. Add extra players. Invent a new sport. Think big, and keep thinking.

Fasola-link! The hardest job in football.
