Carl Eller is “disappointed in the system.”

If the system doesn’t allow giant ex-football players to (allegedly) punch cops in the face and (allegedly) threaten their lives, then what good is that system to Carl Eller?

From Rochelle Olson’s fun Strib story, after Eller was convicted of two gross misdemeanors.

Last April, police on patrol saw Eller in a Mercedes speeding westbound on 8th Avenue N. and ignoring a stop sign. With a police car in pursuit and sirens and lights activated, Eller didn’t stop and get out of his car until he pulled into his north Minneapolis garage, police say. In pretrial testimony, one of the officers, Gil Antaya, told of how he and Seth Porras tried to arrest him but were tossed around by the 6-foot-6, 270-pound Eller.

Eller, whose nickname as a player was Moose, was unbowed by two Taser shots and a punch to the face during the fight and threatened to kill the officers.

Antaya tried to stun Eller twice with his Taser to no effect. He also punched Eller in the face, but that didn’t slow him down.

According the criminal complaint, Eller told the officers: “I’m gonna kick your ass if you don’t let me go,” adding he would kill them. Eller eventually gave up when backup officers arrived.

Olson has plenty of quotes, too, but we like the one from the AP the best:

I am just totally disappointed. Really disappointed in the system, and the way I’ve been treated,” Eller said.

Yes, Lady Liberty, cover your head and hide in shame at this miscarriage of justice.
