Weekend Links with Jon Marthaler

Okay, winter - I thought we had a deal here. It was miserable for the entire month of January and most of December - you were supposed to reward us with an early spring. Four inches of snow was NOT in our plans, thank you very much.
Anyway, it might be a good day to stay inside — perhaps, inside with some weekend links!
*If you follow sports on the internet even casually, I have a hard time believing that you haven’t seen Michael Lewis’s loooooooong New York Times article on Shane Battier. I put up the link, for one reason: am I the only one that’s bothered by Lewis’ I-am-right-it-is-obvious-all-others-are-morons style?
*Vikes Geek believes that, no matter their public posturing, the Vikings aren’t going to LA — ever. I sure hope he’s right … and that we never have to find out one way or the other.
*Speaking of the Vikes: ladies and gentlemen, your 2009 starting Vikings quarterback!
*James Mirtle at From the Rink has a pretty good blow-by-blow breakdown of Le Affaire d’Brothers Kostitsyn in Montreal. To sum up: Thursday night, rumors of something going on with the Canadiens were at such a fever pitch that it would not have been at all surprising to find out that Carey Price and Alex Kovalev had been smoking dope between periods and also casually murdering passers-by on the streets of Montreal. Instead, it turned out that the Kostitsyns are good friends with a guy who’s going to jail. I’ll tell you, these NHL folks can’t even get their scandals right. Call us when somebody shoots themselves in the leg at a nightclub, won’t you?
*And finally, I encourage you to read this post from commenter Brandon, who recently lost a good friend of his. It’s incredibly touching, and it’s hard not to feel his pain — or to immediately call up all of your buddies to make sure they’re okay. It’s a must-read — especially for guys.
That’ll do it for another week — enjoy your (snowy) Saturday. If you’re a skier or a snowmobiler, I would advise not gloating in public; people are likely to hit you.
