Weekend links with Jon Marthaler

Hello once again from Weekend Links headquarters, where we endeavor to waste your hard-earned time. If you’re at work, it turns out that I might actually be increasing your productivity; we also use state-of-the-art algorithms to help maximize link AwesoQuotient (patent pending), so I think we can safely come to only one conclusion: the Weekend Links will make you healthier and more attractive.
On with the links:
*Following our scientific theme: EDSBS breaks down the College Football Coaching Zodiac. No word on whether Tim Brewster is miffed at not being included or merely EXCITED!!
*If you’re the last person on earth who finds April Fool’s Day jokes on the internet funny, here’s a list of about three hundred thousand. Now please, folks, can we please find something better to do with our lives?
*The Seattle Sounders - that’s soc-cer for all you comedians out there - drew a 3.4 local rating in their season opener, nearly triple the Sonics’ average from last season, and comparable to the Mariners’ ratings. Possible conclusions to draw from this: a) Soccer, in certain markets, qualifies as a major sport, even in America. b) Seattle is filled with the exactly the kind of smelly, long-haired dimwits who WOULD watch European Pansyball. c) Maybe Seattle actually deserved to lose the Sonics. d) (Glen Taylor only) “Please, please, don’t let anybody look up the Timberwolves’ ratings…”
*Joe Posnanski linked to this: Clay Shirky on the future of newspapers. Since this is a newspaper website, I swear, this link does apply.
*Chris Brown of the super-awesome Smart Football blog discussed the age-old question of whether college athletes should be paid - and while he offers no conclusions, he does refute a couple of stupid arguments from college professors.
That’ll do it for me - if we’re lucky, DJ Stu will be along soon with some music selections…
