Friday (soc-cer?) edition: Wha’ Happened?

tcf.JPGA couple of soccer items to start your Friday:

*The U.S. has targeted 70 venues as potential sites for World Cup games in 2018 or 2022, years it is bidding for the event. It’s not exactly a narrow list, but note that it includes both the Metrodome and TCF Bank Stadium (pictured). Also note the return of the “La Velle Loves Soccer” tag, as E-III is the one who passed along the link.

*Fans of the local Thunder and other USL First Division soccer teams should note that all matches will be streamed live via USL Live. The best part: it’s free! (Don’t worry about the “under construction” sign; the season doesn’t starts until tomorrow. Minnesota plays at Carolina at 6 p.m. Saturday. More information about the streaming and other things via Brian Quarstad’s excellent soccer site.

*The magical run is over. It was fun while it lasted, Bemidji State.

*Just a reminder to those special chosen ones: Wild playoff tickets go on sale this morning!

*Fasola-link! Climbing waterfalls. TLC would not approve.

Congratulations to Bemidji State, and to newbie, on their memorable accomplishments. Each of them can look forward to seeing their respective beavers again sometime in October.

Bonus link: Indians honor Herb Score. One of the two significant voices of my childhood (the other: Cavs announcer Joe Tait).

Nice link about Herb Score. It’s nice to read an article about a good announcer. I’ve had a few favorite sports announcers, I really miss Jim Kaat as the Twin’s announcer.

I would advise everyone to try to get to a Thunder game this year. I went once last year with Super Rookie and The Marth and it was great. There’s great tailgating before the game and the fans are great during the game. If that’s not enough incentive for you, they also added a beer garden this year.

I don’t think the Dome will make the cut, considering that the MSFC can’t really guarantee it’ll even be around in 2018.

If you need tickets, Super Rookie has them. I may have them as well - the cheapest ticket is $5, which seems plenty worth it.

1) People need to go to the Thunder with me, Marthaler and Roughkat’s better half.
2) Movie quotes over at Roughkats site (linked above) are fantastic. He is a baller because he included Roger Rabbit.
