Happy NFL Draft Day! This is a day when we as sports fans come together and…
Well, I don’t know, exactly. I’ve done my share of draft-watching, but I can’t remember it ever being particularly exciting, except for the years when the Vikings couldn’t pick straight, and the ninety seconds when ESPN shows the Jets Draft Blunders clip. Mostly, it’s a good way to waste an otherwise-unremarkable April day, but it seems like we could all find better things to do, doesn’t it? (Answer: probably not, no.)
On with some links:
*Vikes Geek thinks that the team may be in the market for Anquan Boldin. Let’s see, a guy who was the second option on his team, that went ballistic on his coach in the playoffs? What’s not to like?
*In business news, the Yankees have been reduced to taking shots at the MLS, which is easy enough that it actually makes the team look bad for stooping that low. Meanwhile, NASCAR seems to be completely going backwards at this point; they’ve had record-low ratings, and the economy’s more or less crushing the sport.
*Joe Posnanski wrote a two-part post that is honestly going to change how I watch baseball. In a related story, Joe Posnanski makes me think, “Why can’t all of the internet be this super-awesome on a regular basis?”
*And finally: Chris Brown of Smart Football has an interesting look at former Kentucky head coach Hal Mumme, who spawned Mike Leach’s success at Texas Tech (among many other coaches) - but also may have been certifiably nuts himself. ()
That’ll do it for me. Enjoy the draft, or the Gophers’ spring football game, or whatever else you have planned for your Saturday. Assuming, of course, that you can actually find something better to do.
