Timberwolves: Pay the Pick is back!

Good news for fans of the Timberwolves and sanctioned gambling: the Wolves’ Pay The Pick promotion is back for another year. For those who are unaware, we went in on season tickets with Brandon and Roughkat last year via this deal. The per-game price of season tickets is equal to the spot the Wolves wind up drafting. Last year, Minnesota got the No. 3 pick; therefore, our tickets were $3/game. The beauty is that there is true risk. The better the team’s draft position, the cheaper the tickets and presumably the better the on-court product. The worse the draft position, the more expensive the tickets and presumably the worse the on-court product. Tickets could be as cheap as $1/game if the Wolves win the lottery. A news release from the team spells out some of the particulars this year:
With this season’s “Pay the Pick” promotion, fans will be able to pre-order this unique 29-game ticket package at a price corresponding to the team’s first-round draft selection (as low as $1 per seat per game for the 29-game package, and capped at $6 per seat per game). Minnesota’s draft position will be determined at the 2009 NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday, May 19. The Wolves have a 7.6% chance of earning the top overall pick and a 25.5% chance of being among the top three selections.
Note: That 29-game package is new. This past year, it was full season tickets. They’re calling it a sampler pack, with one game against every other team in the NBA. The $6 cap is a nice touch.
The “Pay the Pick” promotion will culminate with the 2009 NBA Draft Lottery Party to be held at NBA City Restaurant in Target Center on May 19, when the Wolves’ draft pick will be determined during halftime of that night’s NBA Playoff game. To take advantage of the “Pay the Pick” promotion, fans need to put down a $29 deposit (non refundable) before the draft lottery on May 19.
Roughkat already bought his season tickets at $5/per game. If anyone else, though, is interested in rolling the dice, they should let us know. For some reason, we’re once again intrigued.
