Ben Utecht is one of us, and one of His

Lattewarrior passes along a story about former Hastings High School and Gophers tight end Ben Utecht, who is now with the Cincinnati Bengals. Utecht has a long history of singing (and singing well, we will add). Well, now he has a CD out (self-titled, $10.99). What kind of music? Well, we’re not sure whether to label it gospel or Christian rock, but it is definitely faith-based — which, as MJD notes in the story Latte sent, could be a little out of place in the Bengals locker room. From Utecht’s web site:
Ben is a football player by trade, but a follower of Jesus by desire … Full of passion, depth and an insight to the struggles of faith and life, his songs provoke an honesty and sensitivity that tap directly into the heart strings of our relationship to Christ.
Best of luck to Ben (honestly), but in order to make this extra fun, we have to mention two things: 1) Utecht is also apparently an avid fan of Superman. 2) If you could pick any One of Us athlete aside from Ben Utecht to produce a Christian rock CD, who would it be? For some reason, for us, Carlos Gomez springs to mind.

Stolen from a review of Peter Cetera’s 1986 album “Solitude/Solitaire”
Nice try, Utecht. You can’t just add religious references to make something new. Oh wait…
Would it be too self serving if Baby Jesus Mauer put out a christian rock album?
I hope it sounds more like Crucifictorious than Creed.
When I think “one of us,” Carlos Gomez does not immediately come to mind. I’ll go outside of sports and offer up Cottage Grove’s Seann William Scott. Anybody who has enjoyed so much commercial success despite being devoid of any talent surely has been touched by an angel.
How cute, he’s married to a former U of M Golpher.

Sage Rosenfels.
+ 1 to roughkat for the Friday Night Lights reference. FAITH + 1 also would have been accepted.
You were warned, not by me of course, but this probably isn’t a good start for those that bleed purple.(I got my eye on you Barney)
lattewarrior, for Faith+1 see the link on my comment
RE: Harvin MIA. This would be SO much funnier if he was on the Packers.
Dave MN:
A thousand apologies, my good man. I thought you were linking to a White Lion video.
Man, I miss the P3-baiting sometimes.

Good news for those of you looking to clog arteries with tasty burgers. A 5 guys burgers and fries is/has opened in Edina. I going to assume Stu will agree with me on this one, the one in St. Cloud is pretty delicious.

Jama isn’t wrong. Between Five Guys and Sooze moving up here, it’s like Christmas every day.

Tom Lehman: “I think of myself as a Christian who plays golf, not as a golfer who is a Christian. So whatever kind of job I do, there is a way for God to use that as a tool…”
Tom Lehman rewriting Tool songs with Christian content. I’d buy that.
Sooze is in the SC? Have the drunken college kids been warned?
ramon: I have to imagine “Stinkfist” would be radically different.
jama: there is also an intriguing burger joint opening up near Lake Calhoun called “Burger Jones” The sign outside of the place is cool enough to draw me in.

The Comely Missus Stu just broke something.

According to this article there is a Burger Bonanza coming to the Twin Cities. This is one thing you won’t hear me complaining about.
Jon: that was meant in strictly wholesome terms, if you can use such a word to describe Five Guys.
