weekendlinks.jpgGreetings once again from RandBall Weekend World Headquarters - where any and all news is fit to print! (Very mild curse words not included.)

What with the Gophers and Twins both in town, I’m seriously considering getting in a good eighteen innings of baseball viewing today, especially if the weather turns out nice. With that in mind, a whole buncha’ hardball links:

*Brian at Big Ten Hardball dives into a college baseball rule change — and realizes that it’s purely the result of some Southern-style whining.

*Parker Hageman at Over the Baggy takes a look back at Frank Viola’s Cy Young season in 1988 — and notes that he might not have been the most deserving winner in the award’s history.

*If you love some minor league baseball, fear not. You won’t even have to leave your computer to see the St. Paul Saints this year. I must say, I like where this trend is going; teams seem to be figuring out that it’s a good idea to make sure as many people as possible can see the team as often as possible, even if it negates a minuscule revenue stream in the process. (Feel free to insert your own jokes about the NHL here.)

*College football junkie Clay Travis went down the George Plimpton Memorial Route and trained with a few prospects for the NFL Draft. (Note that this is a ten-part series, so feel free to set aside a large chunk of your day.) You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, Travis will lose his lunch … what’s not to like?

That’ll do it for me. Enjoy the weekend. We don’t get too many of these nice May ones, doncha know. Enjoy them while you can, cause, yaknow, they’re pretty darn good.
