fitzgerald.JPGWe just got off the phone with Cardinals WR, Minneapolis native, former Vikings ballboy and Madden cover man Larry Fitzgerald Jr., who we now know grew up about 10 blocks from where we currently live. The impetus for the Q&A was a football camp Fitzgerald is putting on in mid-June in the Twin Cities, and the majority of the Q&A will run in Sunday’s paper. But at the end, we had to ask Fitz about the saga of Brett Favre and the Vikings. We thought his answer was good enough to share with everybody right now:

RandBall: I want to ask you one more thing before I go. I would be remiss if I didn’t ask you about all the Brett Favre stuff, is he coming here, is he not. What have you thought about all the talk?

Larry Fitzgearld Jr.: I’m not going to lie. I’m a huge Minnesota Vikings fan still. If we’re not playing against the Vikings, I want them to win. I have great relationships with Adrian Peterson, Tarvaris [Jackson], Antoine Winfield, Kevin Williams. A lot of my closest NFL friends are on the Vikings, so I want to see them do well. They have an amazing coach and man in Brad Childress. A tremendous human being. I want to see those guys do well.

But Brett Favre in Purple? C’mon, man. That’s just nasty. I mean, he tortured me as a child. He sent me to school on many Mondays just upset, and messed up my whole weekend. I’ll never forget what he did to us on Monday Night Football, when the ball bounced off [Chris Dishman], I was pulling my hair out. And he threw that underhand pass to William Henderson, when Dwayne Rudd almost tackled him. He hurt my heart so many times, that to see him in purple would almost be like a slap in the face. Just a little bit. If he started winning some games for the Vikings, then I’d probably jump on the bandwagon, too. But it just doesn’t seem right.

[Update]: And the circus continues?
