Weekend Links with Jon Marthaler

Jon Marthaler writes here and here regularly. He also writes here at RandBall every Saturday. Jon?

Up top, as a Timberwolves fan, I have a request: Please, get involved in the Bill Simmons For Timberwolves GM movement. Email Wolves president Chris Wright at wright@timberwolves.com. Call the front office. Call your state representative, if you think it will help. It may be a silly idea and end up blowing up in everybody’s face, but let’s be realistic here: Simmons can’t be any worse than any of the other retreads Wolves management is considering. He’s willing to make drastic front-office changes, something the team desperately needs. He’d get people interested in the team again. So why not?
I’m not pretending that this really has a chance in heck of happening; Glen Taylor didn’t get to where he is in life by being a Mark Cuban-style maverick. But the least we can do, as fans, is make our voices heard, let the team know that we’re paying attention, and remind them that they’ll be held accountable for the decision.
Endorsement over. Now, on with the links!
*Over at Access Vikings (hear me out, now), Judd Zulgad is calling out Vikings management () for being so secretive about the Favre negotiations, to the detriment of the fans. Given Brad Childress’s usual strategy for dealing with anyone not named Brad Childress (deny everything, reveal nothing, death before information!), I’m guessing that this won’t have too much of an effect.
*Ohio State’s Mark “The Shark” Titus is a Vikings fan. I mention this for only one reason: ONE OF US ONE OF US ONE OF US. (We must claim them all, no matter how tenuous the connection.)
*Obligatory cricket link: The International Cricket Council wants to get a Twenty20 cricket league set up in the US, Twenty20 being the type of cricket that, to paraphrase Bill Bryson, takes just a few hours and at the end of the day, you know who won. (Honestly, I’m just putting this in to see who the first one to post “Cric-ket?” in the comments will be.)
*Quick links, because I’m running out of space: Nick Nelson makes the case for sitting Delmon Young instead of demoting Carlos Gomez. Orson Swindle whacks Jason Whitlock upside the head. And Brian Quarstad educates us all on Moneyball-style statistics in soccer.
That’s plenty for the week. Here’s hoping that some of you aren’t reading this, because you’re out fishing. Nothing so relaxing as sitting on a lake in 52-degree weather with rain pouring on your head.
For the rest of you: happy Saturday.

I’d join the Simmons for GM cause if I weren’t so busy gathering Favre for QB petition signatures.
The Proprietor has been offered at least one cricket link in the last week, but exercised an option to link to Wiener Dog races instead. Sounds about right.
I totally misread the word “retreads” in the Wolves GM paragraph. My misreading still made sense.
This just in:
Reusse is still an crusty old curmudgeon.
That is all.
@j_mijares: I don’t think you understand the contest. YOU don’t get $25K worth of Subway, a fan does. Nice work.
By the way, if you want to know what it’s like to work for Rand, take a look at the above photo.
Ironically, Rand is not the pug. You are.
I think Jon is trying to say that every day is invigorating and surprising.
You’d rather work for Sid?
