Lars is my son and I did not start getting worried about him until the 13th inning. He was cruising and the only pain he has experienced in the five days since is some soreness in his buttocks from pushing off the mound; otherwise, his arm is fine. Someone else could be in serious pain after 50 pitches. It all depends upon the athlete and the mechanics. I'll tell you this: Lars or anyone else who was there will never forget his performance. I know I won't.

What we sometimes forget is that most of these kids are never, ever going to play college ball, let alone pro ball. So what are we saving their arms for? Let em throw, to create a memory they can savor for a lifetime.

Dave MN, I like that they clarified the pronounciation of "SI'-ne-bahr". Because that's a priority in this story.

That sounds like a good old fashioned duel.

If I was pitching I'd get yanked after 12 pitches, or shortly after I walked the bases loaded.

This just in: The Yankees are planning to offer Joe Mauer a 15 year deal worth $9999.

Upon hearing the news, Mauer said that he would finally build that shed that he's been putting off.

A high school coach walks a fine line between doing what is best for the team, and doing what is best for the player. In most cases the decision to keep pitching cannot be left to the player, he will not want to let his teammates down.

Case in point: We had an All-State pitcher in high school with a D-I baseball scholarship. I'm guessing he pithced 75% of the innings in the section tournament and finally blew out his shoulder in the section final. He never pitched again. We won the game and went to state, but was that worth ending his career? I say no, but what do I know?

Either way, I do not envy the pressure put on high school coaches to win, and protect their player's at the same time.
