Friday (Brewster wins the battle) edition: Wha’ Happened?
Posted on June 5th, 2009 – 8:01 AMBy Michael Rand
The RandBall Twitter Challenge, which was announced about a month and a half ago, has found itself a winner. Gophers football coach Tim Brewster, in a fashion Gophers football fans will likely be unfamiliar with (but will hopefully get more acquainted with in coming years), pulled off a stunning victory just when it seemed as though all hope of defeating Brian Cardinal in the race to 1,500 followers was lost. Cardinal had a 50-follower lead recently and was teetering on the brink of going over the edge, with roughly 1,480 followers when we checked early yesterday. Indeed, we had even made preliminary arrangements regarding sending the winning RandBall shirt to Cardinal, who we’re told (seriously) wanted the smallest shirt possible so he could take a funny picture of him wearing it. But a huge surge from Brewster pushed him over the top at around 5 p.m. yesterday. As of now, he’s at 1,510 followers. We are, at this very moment, trying to arrange the ceremonial T-shirt distribution. Stay tuned on that one, and congrats to both men in a hard-fought battle for 140-character love.
Now what?
Well, we’re still in North Mankato. Possible topics of discussion, aside from the Twitter battle and any subsequent challenges you would like to see: Jason Kubel’s huge day; the top-heavy nature of the Twins’ batting order; Kobe Bryant’s intense, assassin-like face last night; hoc-key and how glorious Game 5 should be; U.S. World Cup soccer qualifying; Tony LaRussa suing Twitter; how great “The Hangover” is going to be; etc.
Fasola-link! The return of “Chocolate Thunder?”
