TFD: Tim Brewster apparently counts assistant coaching victories on his all-time record

While some of you might think head football Gophers coach Tim Brewster has an all-time record of 8-17 — his mark in two seasons at Minnesota, which was his first-ever head coaching gig at the college level — the Brew Crew Report is here to set the record straight. The official blog of Tim Brewster will have you know that he has a coaching record of 113-61-1 all-time, a mark that apparently would include time he spent as something other than the head coach at various other career stops.
Can you, um, really do that? We suppose. Though it seems a little bit like Tommie Aaron saying he and his brother Hank combined for 768 career home runs.

I think that ignoring the various assistant coaches - or acting like the experience they give & gain is irrelevant - is wrong.
I have never played organized football, but I know that in various sports I have played I have usually received more help from assistant coaches than head coaches.
Obviously the head coach pulls it together and gets the overall blame / credit. But nothing that Brewster said is wrong*. He coached, and 64% of the time his team won.

Well, that was interesting.
Muxhut: I would say you’re right in some regards, though I think the wording he uses makes it somewhat disingenuous. There’s no problem with him saying he has been an assistant with some very good teams that compiled those records. That’s what got him the head job with the Gophers. But to say that’s his “coaching record” … that’s taking a little too much credit, I think.
To the newcomers: I’m not quite sure what to say, but I’m not positive you understand the spirit of the thing.
At least a couple of the newcomers are Gridiron Gold’s equivalent of Access Vikings’ followers, without all the caps. No lie.
Rand - I think there’s a lot more than the spirit of the thing that the newcomers don’t understand–books without pictures and sentences featuring a grunt to word ration of less than 5:3 being near the top of that list…

I wish Tim Brewster would just shut his BIG gaping mouth until he does something as a head coach that is even remotely significant. Instead, why doesn’t he just shut up and Twitter about how his school has lost out on THE AXE for the 14 of the last 16 years and 5 in a row to their rival Wisconsin Badgers.
After reading this, I have informed coach brewster to no longer contact my son. These are not ethics our family condones.
