twingo.jpgLast night’s Twins/Yankees game was a fan’s nightmare and a Twingo player’s dream. Unfortunately, sitting in the upper deck GA section, there were no Twingo cards to be found. We’re not sure if this is policy or an oversight or what (admittedly, most of the youngsters in our section didn’t seem capable of scoring a baseball game, let alone playing baseball’s version of bingo), but as a previous two-time Twingo winner, we were frustrated to not get a card. We were even more frustrated when the bevy of unusual scoring plays that often dot those cards started flying fast and furious. Wild pitches. A pickoff (1-6), a 1-unassisted, a 3-6-3. And there was more. Oh, there was more. It was Twingo glory. But not for everyone. So it goes.

The game really hinged on a few key at-bats, one of which was a brutal strikeout by Michael Cuddyer with the bases loaded. Cuddyer has had a very nice bounceback year from injury. But as we sat watching that at-bat (taking a called strike down the pipe and half-swing-flailing at two bad ones), we couldn’t help but wonder if there needs to be a designation other than a forward K (swinging) or a backward K (looking) for a particularly atrocious strikeout. One member of our Great Baseball Road Trip reunion crew suggested that perhaps a K on its side or cocked at some sort of angle, to show complete submission, might be the best way to go. In the definition, it would perhaps say K (complete fail).

Perhaps you have some other ideas, though.

Office Baseball later for Game 3 of the series and the Twins’ last chance to salvage something against the Yankees.

(Foreign automaker Renault apparently makes a car called the Twingo, by the way. Do you smell a promotional tie-in?)
