4ever.JPGWe haven’t believed a single Brett Favre “retirement” … until today, that is. If he isn’t coming back to a loaded team and a familiar offense, with the chance to stick it to the team he thinks wronged him, well, he isn’t coming back ever. It’s time to get used to the idea of Tarsagis Rosenjack and hoping for enough playmakers around them and the fortunate bouncing of the football. This is the official endpoint of any notion we once had that bringing Favre in would be a good idea. The Vikings should feel the same way.

Brad Childress, who stands to lose the most from all this, released a statement recently (after giving the exclusive story to our guy Judd Zulgad, ensuring he wouldn’t have to go at it all night with Chip Scoggins. But seriously, great work by Judd throughout this story and especially for getting the huge scoop before anyone else. SI.com finally put it on its site with credit to the Strib about 45 minutes after it went up. Must have taken a while to work its way to the intertubes. Peter King’s tears aren’t known to be a great conductor on the information superhighway). Oh, right, the statement said, in part:

As we have consistently communicated, we feel good about our team and they have put forth a tremendous effort this offseason preparing for the season ahead. With this behind us, we look forward to getting to Mankato and getting training camp underway.

Indeed. So, Packers fans, Favre is all yours. Green Bay 4-Ever, indeed. Except for that ugly divorce. And that stop in New York. And the flirtation with the ex-rival.

There are a lot of Vikings fans who probably hate Favre more than ever. Go ahead and chase that feeling tonight.
