Thursday (Wolves Caravan) edition: Wha’ Happened?
Posted on July 30th, 2009 – 8:30 AMBy Michael Rand
Though perhaps less celebrated than, say, the Twins’ Winter Caravan, the Timberwolves do a little bit of state traveling of their own to meet the fans in the state. The three-day event started yesterday in Rochester, continues today in St. Cloud and then finishes tomorrow in Duluth, creating a route that, when traced over with ink, looks somewhat like a porpoise throwing a chest pass. . Yes, it’s just Corey Brewer and Ryan Gomes running the two-man weave through most of the non-metro major destinations in the state. (Alexandria and Mankato are totally peeved, but whatever).
What happens on this tour, you ask? Well, according to the itinerary (image from that NBA.com page), today features some work with kids, lunch (at the Radisson!) and a clinic at Sauk Rapids High School (presumably this is a basketball clinic, not some situation where Brewer and Gomes are distributing swine flu shots). Tomorrow in Duluth, it’s mostly the same thing — with the added wrinkle of visiting a Habitat For Humanity location in Cloquet, where hopefully nobody will tell Brewer he could “build a house with all those bricks.” Zing!
Here’s where you can help, RandBallers: There appears to be a decent amount of unaccounted for time in the itinerary. If it was up to you, what would you advise Brewer and Gomes to do with any down time today in St. Cloud? How about spots they absolutely have to see between leaving St. Cloud (5 p.m.) and arriving in Duluth? Once they get to Duluth, they have no obligations until leaving the hotel at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. What would two NBA players like to do in Duluth? Scenic stroll through Canal Park? You decide. And, are there any can’t-miss spots after leaving Duluth tomorrow? Maybe some baked goods at Tobies in Hinckley?
Have fun, kids. Today will be a moderate posting day, but there are a couple of premium items for your reading and viewing pleasure.
