usamap.pngIn something that has become a summer tradition, today will largely be one of those “open mic” commenting days. The reason? We are continuing our summer tour of Minnesota’s bordering states. Wisconsin (twice) and North Dakota have already been conquered. Today, of all goes well, we will arrive in Iowa. And tonight, we will sneak across the border into South Dakota for a Sioux Falls (S.D.) baseball game against the St. Paul Saints. Yes, that’s right, we’re going to a St. Paul Saints road game.

By way of discussion, we offer two things:

1) In the spirit of kinship and recognizing that of these states have more in common than we might want to admit, we ask you A) what are your favorite places in these neighboring four states? and B) what are some common elements between all five states in terms of the people, the places, the culture, etc.?

2) This one is from Newbie:

It seems President Obama is trying to position himself further away from Randball. He is a White Sox fan. At RandBall we celebrate and encourage all sports. Much respect was shown to Mark Buehrle when he pitched his perfect game. But there is no denying the Twins are RandBall’s team and the White Sox are probably the least liked team. Well, except for Green Bay. He seems to prefer Bud Light. At his “beer summit,” his choice of beer is Bud Light. RandBall also supports most beers; however it seems the “light” beers are probably looked down upon most.

For fear of turning this into a political discussion, I would say on the surface a President who likes beer and sports could be a candidate for “Official President of RandBall.” However, RandBallers are a more clever bunch than that.

Trying to avoid policy issues:
*Are there non-political things the President has done to endear himself to RandBall readers?
*Are there other, non-political things he has done to posture himself outside the good graces of RandBallers
?

If neither of those float your boat, or if either/both start some sort of commenting war, feel free to change the subject willy-nilly. This will almost certainly stand as the only post of the day — even if the Twins acquire three All-Stars and Brett Favre says something ridiculous.
