Sons of Shawn Kemp: A veritable blogging army

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Must be, right? Shawn was famous around the NBA for, well, blocking shots as well as dunking balls. And we’ll stop right there. But there must be, what, a dozen guys blogging at The Sons of Shawn Kemp. In any event, he/they remind us of a post near and dear to our hearts from a few weeks back, only now there’s a follow-up: The NBA All-Star cheerleaders have been selected! Representing the Wolves: Sally (pictured below). Congratulations to everyone, voters and dancers alike. No, really. Job well done.

There’s a lot of stuff on the Internets

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Bengals veterans would like the players who keep screwing up to please stop. RandBall thinks they need to hit double-digits, just for fun.

Bears fans: Not staying classy. If this Super Bowl was in San Diego, there would be big problems. But let’s see them get after Indianapolis. “Hey, your downtown might be convenient for walking but it features far too many chain restaurants.” Yep, that’s all we’ve got.

A-Rod now being told by Yankees from a previous generation that he needs to start hitting when it matters. Get this guy out of NYC, for everyone’s good.

Pro Football Talk takes one more look at what Sean Salisbury did or did not say.

Sean Salisbury said “chew,” ESPN says (2nd Update)

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

2nd update: Pro Football Talk now has audio. Have a listen. Sounds like “Jew,” though the context is still very strange.

The message boards were in a lather today, and Deadspin also picked up on the story, but our according to an ESPN official, Sean Salisbury used the phrase “chew,” as in to chew clock, to describe a Peyton Manning drive, not “Jew,” as had been speculated. We still don’t have any audio-visual confirmation, but it sounds reasonable enough. This nugget of information, by the way, was brought to you by our own Judd Zulgad, who proves every day that it is possible to be two — or even 17 — places at once.

Update: ESPN called Zulgad back and played the sound bite for him. Zulgad writes to RandBall, “It does sound like ‘Jew,’ but he could have mixed up ‘juke’ and ‘chew.’” … That’s a more generous benefit of the doubt than before in our book.

Aaron Gleeman pretty much hates the Ramon Ortiz signing. Aaron tends to be a numbers guy, and he pulls out some good ones, but he also uses a bit of revisionist history when it comes to Johan Santana and Jason Bartlett. The Twins do move slow on their prospects; maybe that’s why the have success when they do get their chance. Also, it wasn’t lack of chances that was holding Michael Cuddyer back before last year, Sr. Gleeman. It was lack of production. Still, he hits on some good points, particularly in the section on the prospect trimmed from the 40-man roster to clear the way for Ortiz. It’s worth a read, even if we don’t believe the move was “Dios Mio” worthy, as Gleeman does.

AOL SportsBlog: Boomer Esiason uses a Joe Buck word to describe Bill Belichick.

Reggie Bush bought a $5 million house in the Hollywood Hills, with a 23-foot high living room ceiling perfect for unnecessary back flips.

The San Jose Mercury News isn’t exactly exactly driving the lead car in the Lane Kiffin parade.

Update: And Deadspin, as usual, is blogging like its hair is on fire. Hey, that’s not our logo!
