Vikings

Monday edition: Wha’ happened?

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Jets 26, Vikings 13: What started out beautifully for the Vikings took a rather ugly turn. We’re not experts, but we’re guessing the phrase “26 unanswered points” generally didn’t work in their favor. Of note, however, was the entrance of QB Tarvaris Jackson late in the third quarter. He’s young. He throws hard. He can move. These are three things you could not say about Brad Johnson.

Nuggets and Knicks brawl: Nate Robinson thinks it started because Denver kept its starters in too long. We’re hoping that somehow, someway, when we get to the bottom of it all, Paris Hilton can be blamed. Punishment likely will be severe, though for Knicks fans, this entire season — nay, the entirety of the Isiah Thomas era — would seem to be punishment enough.

Gilbert drops 60: Gilbert Arenas, who has an excellent blog, dropped a Triple Jackson on the Lakers in a wild 147-141 victory. Triple Jackson is how all the kids say 60. Actually, it isn’t. We just (we think) made it up. Isn’t it lame?

Those predictions you see below: We should have stopped at hello, or at least after the Timberwolves game. Maybe we can skate by on the Denny Hocking corollary, which states that 1 out of 4 isn’t bad?

Update: Thanks to Mr. Crewe for pointing out it’s Andrew Jackson, not Ben Franklin, on the $20 bill. We’re not sure how we got so confused. All we know is the face on the $20s, especially the newer ones, look like ESPN’s Peter Gammons.Â

Your Youtube goodness of the day: A Tecmo Bowl re-creation of the miracle play from the Cardinals’ Josh McCown to Nate Poole that knocked the Vikings out of playoff contention a few years back. It even comes complete with Paul Allen’s pained radio call. It’s really quite brilliant, if you can look past the whole devastation factor. We only point these things out because, you know, as bad as things might seem, they can always be worse.Â

Thanks — sort of — to Rocket for pointing out that right now on ESPN (until 2 p.m. Central) you can relive the NFC Championship game between the Vikings and the Falcons. I’m watching it right now and I’m telling you, there’s no way the Vikings are going to lose this thing. Right?
