A midweek linkfest

News and information from the World of Transportation:

  • First, an analog link: Pick up a copy of the November issue of the Rake magazine and check out artist Margaret Pezalla-Granlund’s watercolor paintings of Twin Cities parking ramps — with entertaining commentary to boot. (I couldn’t find an online version of the two-page spread on the Rake’s website — if it’s lurking somewhere, let me know.)
  • Speaking of parking ramps, off to the right I’ve added a link to the website for the garages near Target Center. The site is more fun than you might expect — where else online can you see a photo of the “carpooling fairy godmother”? There’s also a notification of the closing of the 5th St. and 1st Ave. N. intersection, which began Monday.
  • Also on the permanent links list, thanks to alert reader Lenny: a detailed look at efforts to catalog and preserve some of Minnesota’s historical roadside structures, from waysides and overlooks to fireplaces and picnic tables.
  • A friend steered me toward additional info on the Kucinich car pictured here last week: the number of bumper stickers on it is 300. Click here (and scroll down a ways) to learn even more.
  • Yesterday’s Pioneer Press took a look at how counties are going after delinquent parking tickets — and how late fees can triple the cost.
  • An Apple Valley mayoral candidate is set to go to court today in a road rage case.
  • And if you somehow missed the story of the beer truck that landed on the motorist on 35W, you can still check out a version here.
