From the weekend:

• Deadly trucks: Sunday’s New York Times included this long article about the easing of trucking regulations. The story looks at fradulent truckers’ logs (which conceal illegally long hours) and examines the appointment of trucking industry officials to federal positions overseeing the industry. There’s also a look at campaign donations from trucking interests. The nation’s death toll from truck-related accidents is about 5,000 a year.
• Garage doors jammed: Last week, hundreds of motorists in Colorado Springs arrived home to find their garage doors inoperable, thanks to a new homeland-secuirty-related radio transmitter at a nearby Air Force station. The Colorado Springs Gazette version of the story is here.
