Roadguy took a week off from BlogWorld, but he’s not sure he’ll ever do that again. While he was out:

• Roadguy headquarters got sold.
• The printed version of the Strib announced that most parking meters were free on New Year’s Eve, but many actually weren’t.
• The I-494 bridge over the Missisippi River got delayed again, meaning it might be finished by the time that the 2007 New Year’s babies get their driver’s licenses.

If that wasn’t enough, there was an abundance of other transportation stuff to read:

• The Strib took a look at how some streetlights are way too bright; at the challenge of cramming transit into the new Twins ballpark; and at the record number of drunken driving arrests last year. (For an earlier Roadguy discussion of drunks with car keys, click here.)
• Editorials and letters galore have surfaced on transit funding (click here and here), the beleaguered photo cop program (here), and both topics (here).

Also, a blurb I wrote about the Midtown Greenway bridge over Hiawatha Avenue appeared in the paper last week, and it sparked renewed debate both here (in Roadguy) and here (at the Minneapolis E-Democracy website). The comments are all over the map, with the bridge serving as a reminder that beauty does not always equal love.

I’m still getting caught up on everything, but it looks like 2007 could be a key year for transportation in Minnesota. Fasten your seat belts — we’re off to a heckuva start.
