In case you missed them, three transportation-type stories from the Strib:

  • Unwelcome signs: Amid concerns about driver distractions, Minnetonka has ordered the unplugging of two digital billboards; Saturday’s story is here.
  • Everybody in the carpool: Metro Transit is working to keep its ride-sharing lists useful and up-to-date; Sunday’s story is here.
  • Off-roading in the east metro: Ramsey County is hoping for a big expansion of its bike paths; today’s story is here.

As always, if you have links you’d like to share, send ‘em on in to Roadguy.

Regarding the Carpool link, I myself have just started pooling three weeks ago. I registered back in November, but didn’t find anyone it worked with. However, in December, someone who works in my building registered and found me listed. So we connected to chat about our requirements and have been pooling ever since. I normally bus to work, but in the winter, it’s just so uncomfortable to have to walk many blocks and stand to wait for your bus in 10 degree, windy weather. I’ll probably start busing again in April or when the weather shapes up. But in the meantime, pooling reduces his monthly parking fee to over $100, so it benefits the both of us greatly.

In other news, I am planning to buy a condo just south of Mpls this summer, so when I move in, I’ll be able to WALK to work! So exciting! :)

After Minneapolis has burned through its $25 million “studying” why walking is good for you they will still not have a “system” of bike-ped trails, just a bunch of unconnected paths to nowhere.

If Ramsey County gets funded they will have a 100 mile transit system.
