Links: Northstar videos, light-rail growth and more

Miscellany for your Friday:
- Commuter rail simulations: A big “thank you” to our friends over at Buzz.mn for pointing out these animations of what the Northstar stations will be like; the one in Fridley has an interesting pedestrian tunnel, while the simulation of the downtown Minneapolis station includes the new Twins ballpark. There’s also a calculator for commuters to figure out how much money they’d save by taking the train instead of driving.
- A look at the mileage tax: Roadguy initially missed MPR’s Jan. 16 story on how a mileage tax (instead of a gas tax) might work; click here for text and a link to the audio version.
- New train cars coming: I also just stumbled across this news from the Met Council — three more light-rail cars will join Metro Transit’s fleet in March. And the Hiawatha line saw a 20 percent increase in ridership in 2006.
