Roadguy was out of town over the weekend and is artfully composing his next blog post; in the meantime, here are some links to the transportation-related writings of others:

  • The return of PhotoCop? The Legislature may consider allowing Minneapolis to resume its Stop on Red camera enforcement program; Strib story is here.
  • Speaking of state laws… North Dakota is the only state with a ban on parking meters, but Fargo is floating the idea of a repeal; click here.
  • Speaking of North Dakota… Since the 1960s, the state has been spraying some of its roads with salty water left over from oil production. The practice is now on hold amid environmental and health questions; an Associated Press story is here.
  • A tangled light-rail loop? Creating a light-rail loop in downtown St. Paul would cost more and serve fewer passengers, according to a draft report on the Central Corridor line. The Pioneer Press story is here.
  • A different kind of freeway entrance: Roadguy was born in a boring old hospital, but over the weekend, Lillian Louise Heath of Plymouth began to enter the world while her mother was on Hwy. 100. Full Strib story here.
  • He wasn’t text-messaging, but… The headline from the Sheboygan Press in Wisconsin speaks volumes: “Truck driver distracted by MP3 player spills 40 tons of cow intestines and bones on I-43.” Story is here.
  • Bikes and baseball: Planners of the new Twins stadium appear to have found a way to continue the Cedar Lake Trail through the site. Click here to read last week’s story about the trail (and here to read about how the ballpark’s site might be up in the air).
