Roadguy, Greengirl and few links

Roadguy is officially on vacation the rest of this week — after today, look for prose from guest blogger Greengirl in this space. Gardening may be her speciality, but she can dish the dirt about TC transportation (and, her camera is nicer than mine).

And for your reading pleasure, a few links to share:

  • Metro sales tax: The Strib takes a look at DFL efforts to enact a metrowide sales tax to pay for transportation; click here.
  • Getting drivers with DWIs back behind the wheel: A City Pages story about some possible changes is here.
  • PhotoCop inches ahead: A bill to make the cameras legal advanced at the Legislature; click here.

I’ll be back next week, but keep those comments and e-mails coming so I have plenty to read upon my return.

Just remember, TRUE geeks never take vacations…;o)

Regarding the proposals for a sales tax, I would support such if it were split between roads, transit, and trail connections. And as for Pawlenty’s opposition to the tax…given that he’s the one who wanted a voter referendum for a gas tax increase, he shouldn’t be complaining about a voter referendum for a sales tax.

I voted for Pawlenty (twice) not because I’m a Republican or dislike Democrats, but because he seems like an affable guy, a guy next door, a guy you would have a beer with working on a car in the garage. He didn’t seem like your average politician.

That’s why I just scartch my head when he does things like veto a perfect, bipartisan transportation bill, or says no to a miniscule penny tax that would virtually solve all of our transportation needs.

It would be one thing if he had a plan, but his only plan is more borrowing. He seems to be in denial about how dire the situation is. I just don’t get it. What’s up, Tim? What’s the plan?

this is why i decided some time ago that i will choose my friends on how affable they are and how much i like to dring beer with them, but i will choose my politicians based on how smart and ethical they are (or seem to be–it’s not easy to tell).

i will never have a beer with tim pawlenty, so that will never be my criteria for voting for him.

Hmmmm…I Think that’s what I just said. Because he seems like an average Joe, he seemed like he would champion their cause. He certainly wasn’t as unnerving as the idea of having Hatch run the show.

As for smarts and ethics go, I’ll take common sense over smarts. Everyone who represents us is smart. You don’t get elected to higher offices by being a moron. Pawlenty, seemed to be smart AND have common sense. I guess I was wrong, at least as far as these matters go. And ethics from politcians? Hello????? I wouldn’t let anyone I didn’t think was ethical drink beer in my home.
