Events to check out and things to read:

  • Share your thoughts on downtown transportation: Our friends Shaun the Intern and Anna the Planner are involved in a couple of open houses next week to get public input on transportation plans for downtown Minneapolis; click here for more info.
  • Motorcycles: If last week’s discussion about motorcycle noise didn’t give you a headache, check out this essay on the topic from Sunday’s Strib. Then click here for a USA Today story about helmet laws, motorcycle fatalities and the attendant high emotions. (The story had drawn more than 300 comments the last time I looked.)
  • Night owls, beware: Part of I-35W in south Minneapolis will be completely closed from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. Friday; click here for the news brief.
  • No more car-shopping in Midway: Light rail may be coming to University Avenue in St. Paul, but you won’t be able to ride the train to pick up your new Malibu — the last new-car dealership in the Midway area is heading out. Strib story is here; Pioneer Press story is here.
