Links: A ride on the 5, those ‘fake’ meters, beer, and more

- Bus security update: Minnesota Public Radio takes listeners for a ride on Metro Transit’s No. 5 bus; click here for text, audio and a slideshow.
- Parking meters, panhandlers, pedestrians, and more: Remember these contraptions from Roadguy’s visit to Denver? Looks like Minneapolis will be trying something similar; click here for a Strib story about efforts to curb the number of beggars at freeway exits, along sidewalks, and elsewhere.
- Abuzz with transportation topics: Contributors to Buzz.mn take a look at bike theft here and ethanol here. Buzz also points the way to two Minnesota Daily articles, this one about the possible return of streetcars to Minneapolis and this one about the new football stadium’s effects on congestion and parking.
- What if they’d rather drink than drive? Many German farmers are switching to biofuel crops, meaning that less barley is being grown, meaning that the price of beer is on the rise. A short Associated Press story via the Strib is here; a longer version of the same story is here, thanks to, of all things, Pravda (which, despite what you may have heard, is not the same as the Strib).
