Bridge miscellany: A sketch, political cartoons, front pages and more
Posted on August 10th, 2007 – 6:05 AMBy Roadguy
Another quick ‘n’ random post today, as Roadguy’s bosses are keeping him quite busy. Since I don’t really have time to write a thousand words, let’s start with a picture for your consideration:

The sketch was created by Choy Leow, a friend of one of the Cribsheet bloggers. He wrote:
What happened August 1st here in Minneapolis gave us all reason to pause & reflect. Was drawn to the site this afternoon to pay respect to those impacted…
In the darkest of Minnesota’s moments, the light of the day was surreal with the recovery activities going on. Those who were taken paid the ultimate price needed to commit to the health, safety & welfare we value. We who remain will have to find ways to bring this to closure & ensure a better place for future generations…
For drawings of a different sort, a collection of bridge-related political cartoons from around the country is here. And if you’d like a look at how other newspapers’ front pages covered the disaster, click here.
Also, given that even our detour will have a detour this weekend, some folks might just opt out of traffic altogether and hang around the house. So if you’ve got any bridge-related links that we might not have discovered on our own, please add them in the comments below.
Finally, here’s a transit destination I never imagined I’d see:

You definitely need more than a ticket to ride.

Thanks for posting those front pages. I only saw what the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel did, so I was glad to finally see the hometown papers. The PiPress’s approach was really interesting and very different.
I’ve been noticing your name on more bylines lately, Roadguy. Thanks for all the great articles this past week. They have all been very informative and well-written.
Pending notification of family members, the recovery would bring the number of dead in the Aug. 1 catastrophe to nine and reduce the number of people confirmed missing to four.
One week late, but the Strib’s initial report is correct….for now. I hope the shock factor sold you some extra copies. Don’t be concerned with accuracy, after all, you’re just a “news” paper.
We reported what the authorities told us at the time; they later revised their numbers downward, as did we. And a friendly reminder: This is a transportation blog, not an “I hate the media” blog.
I agree with Roadguy’s comment regarding this being a transportation blog. Consumers that are upset with the Trib should write a letter to the Tribune and vent via the postal system instead of having us read about their comments in this blog.
Here’s a blog with somebroken bridge art click on the picture to enlarge it..
