Down by the riverside, early January version

As mentioned the other day in this post, Roadguy got to visit the 35W bridge site on Thursday of last week. Here are a few photos; the first five can be clicked on for a larger view.

First of all, those doomed buildings from a few weeks ago…

… have met their fate:

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised when structures in that part of town just disappear.

Fortunately, new structures are showing up. As I noted in this blurb published over the weekend, there’s a lot of lumber in place in the casting yard:

The wooden forms, which will be used to cast concrete segments of the main span, are taking shape and look kind of ship-like:

(Another view, by a real photographer, was published with my blurb and is here.)

Safety, of course, is the top concern at the site, as this sign attests:

Yikes. Roadguy’s clip-on sunglasses probably wouldn’t be adequate protection.

Finally, there was some evidence that the construction workers think a bit highly of themselves. This label was everywhere:

Turns out it’s a brand of building material, and the labels were affixed to metal studs, not self-styled human ones.
