  • The cost of crashes: A new AAA report says car crashes cost Americans $164 billion dollars a year, far more than congestion. (Strib story here, AAA news release here, PDF of full report here.) Curious detail: The Federal Highway Administration says “the per person cost of a fatality is $3,246,192.”
  • Hastings bridge: When maintenance work begins, the wait to get across the bridge could range from 10 minutes to an hour. An MPR story is here.
  • Southwest light rail: The feds say an environmental study of the corridor can begin; Strib story here.
  • Central Corridor: A public relations firm says the line should be called ICICLE; Pioneer Press story here. In southeast Minneapolis, meanwhile, residents are weighing in on the 29th Avenue station.
