Re: the drinking & driving story: I had the same thought as beverage industry letter writer after reading that article last week. That is indeed a huge subjective variable in a study - having driven after drinking, and having driven while three sheets to the wind (see: drunk.) I would have answered “yes” to this question even if I had driven on only one occurrence after only one drink at any point in the past year.
Maybe all this study shows is that folks from the Upper Midwest (the states that had the highest percentages of self-reported “driving after drinking”) are simply more honest and interpret such questions more literally than people from other parts of the country?
Wait, I forgot to take a cheap shot at Wisconsin. They are indeed confirmed lushes, self-reporting honestly or not ![]()
As long as the truckers are going to protest prices set through supply and demand, why not protest bland tasting vegetables, Newton’s Third Law of Motion, and the strength of gravity while they’re at it. I also hope they generate a petition to bring back unicorns.
