Interstate 35W Bridge, 4 p.m. today (click once or twice to enlarge). The gap between the two sides could be as small as seven feet by the end of the week; stay tuned.

I took the photo above while standing next to a real Strib photographer, who took a very similar shot. While we were down there, one of our video guys shot this, which provides views from inside and atop the bridge.

Is the northbound span (on the right) actually higher than the southbound one? Or is that just an illusion caused by the perspective of the photo?

It appears to me that the north side of the northbound span has an additional segment on it, as compared to the north side of the southbound span. That’s why it looks different.

Screech is correct — the northbound side was longer (on both sides of the river). The two main spans were not of noticeably different heights.

Yeah, they seem to be progressing faster on the eastern span versus the western one. Here’s an aerial view from Mn/DOT from a few days ago:

It’s almost met together now!
