License plates in other places: Why, That’s Funny

Roadguy is a little behind on everything already this week, so to save time, I’m doing what all bloggers do: posting a link to something clever that someone else found. Today that someone is Andrew Sullivan, who linked to this story, which is about North Carolina’s unease with license plates containing the letter combo “WTF.”

And you thought GLBLWMR was problematic.

How did the DMV not know what WTF meant? Those initials had that meaning many years before texting was invented.

Oh my god, those three letters are an acronym! And the last letter indicates a dirty word! Won’t somebody please think of the children!

Give me a break, next they’ll be trying to outlaw having a not-happy expression while driving. “Officer, I cut that man off and he frowned at me. I just know he was thinking an unpleasant word in my direction., and I have children in the car!”

OK, I had to look: WTF, SNAFU and FUBAR are all registered plates in Minnesota.

Next thing you know, people are going to start complaining about the work “snap” because it is now commonly being used in place of another 4-letter word that starts with an ’s’.

Err, the WORD “snap”.

LOL, KFU

I like that snafu and fubar are both plates.

I call STFU if it’s not taken already, also OMGWTF

I spotted a car yesterday with a license plate beginning with NSF. I sure hope it wasn’t a vanity plate! lol

Ohh, that’s a good point. I wonder if NSFW is taken?

It’s awful when “the government” (no longer our government) attempts to right every wrong, legislate every behavior.

W-asted T-ax F-unds…

Too bad local governments can get like that over something that some people might think is offensive. What they really need to do is concentrate on what’s truly offensive, such as dangerous-driving. Then the rest of us can get a good chuckle at the wheel over these license plates… :)

The abbreviation can mean whatever we want…

Waiting To Fish.
We’ll Try Flying.
Will Take Food.
Watch Television Frequently.
Want Those Fries?

:)

Funny, I posted a couple similar acronyms a few posts back, and froggie called me out as being obscene. Now everyone’s having a big yuck over it? Where’s the outrage NOW, Froggie? Or an I just the enemy :-D .
