SOUTHWEST LIGHT-RAIL LINE: If you want to weigh in on the routing of the proposed Southwest light-rail line, there’s a meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Hennepin County Government Center. Similar events will be held on the 14th in St. Louis Park and on the 23rd in Eden Prairie. Click here for the list. If Roadguy’s mailbox is any indication, we’ll be seeing some spirited discussion in the next few months about where the line should go in Minneapolis — Kenwood? Uptown? Nicollet Avenue?

TWO-WAY TRAFFIC ON HENNEPIN: The city of Minneapolis plans to change Hennepin Avenue and 1st Avenue N. in downtown from one-way to two-way traffic operation by the end of 2009. This will affect car, bike and bus traffic. There’s a meeting from 5-6 p.m. this Wednesday at the Minneapolis Central Library (it’s in the Doty Board Room, the news release says).

THIRD WARD SUMMIT: Next Wednesday the 15th, there’s a transportation-related summit in Minneapolis’ Third Ward. Topics include light rail, commuter rail, traffic congestion, the Lowry Avenue Bridge, bicycling, and more. The all-evening event is at the Ritz Theater, 345 13th Ave. NE. Registration is at 5 p.m., program starts at 6 p.m., post-summit discussion starts at 9:30 p.m

Wow, I had no idea about Hennepin/First Ave. When was this decided? It would be nice to get some more information about this one!

I might go to the St Louis park meeting on the rail line, but the part of the line that goes by my place is fixed, no option but to run it down the existing rail lines over beltline boulevard. That suits me though, I’ll be able to walk to the station in less then 10 minutes should I want to use the line to get downtown.

The big fight is going to be around the lakes, all of the proposed routes will stir up controversy and people who don’t want the line near their homes.

Hennepin/1st Ave was a goal listed in the city’s Downtown Action Plan, part of the 10 year transportation plan. City council approved it last year:
