This was the scene as I waited for the bus on Hennepin Avenue last night around 6:40 (click to enlarge):

According to a bystander, a cab (visible behind the police car) hit a pedestrian (being loaded into the ambulance). The cab remained in place after the crash, prompting cars stuck behind it to veer across the tracks — and in front of the train. The ambulance, meanwhile, had parked on the southbound tracks and perilously close to the northbound ones. Eventually, the train decided it could get past the ambulance, so it went extremely slowly, with very little clearance; the bicyclist in the photo was among those stranded. Traffic on Hennepin was also blocked by a fire truck and backed up for several blocks.

No idea whether the cabbie or the pedestrian was at fault, but it was a whole lot of mess for hundreds of people. Just another night in the big city.
