It’s gotten THIS bad? (Wan attempts at humor and insight)

“The Twins weren’t able to tag Hernandez for many runs, but they limited him to just six innings by driving up his pitch count. Hernandez threw 110 pitches during his outing, allowing the one run on four hits and striking out six.”the mlb.com game story.

No, it wasn’t the rain that almost knocked me off the road. It was the Twins’ postgame blather, in which Gordo insisted the Twins were still in the title race and that they didn’t lose any ground despite losing.  Probably shouldn’t dignify that discussion with an attempt at accuracy, but they did drop a half-game to idle Cleveland. Seven back w/ 44 to play.

I thought I heard Dean Martin singing to Nick Punto after he struck out on that fouled bunt in the ninth. “When there’s 2 strikes on a guy and the ball’s in his eye … Don’t be bunting.”

Another Gordo moment from the postgame: He asked Gladden about the times that Kirby Puckett would tell the team to get on his back, and then wondered who might play that role on the current club. Maybe Gladden should have answered “Jason Tyner.” But he did point out that Puckett would utter those words at times “and then go 0-for-4.” So much for mystique.

Ms. Baseball’s parents were at Safeco last night and called during the game to say hi. We didn’t tell them, but we kinda felt sorry for ‘em.
