Happy 50th Birthday, Ron Gardenhire

Today is Ron Gardenhire’s 50th birthday and you can be sure he’d rather be (and we’d 0agardy.jpgrather have him) celebrating by getting ready for Game 1 of the World Series. Since that’s not going to happen, I figured it would be good to open the floor to birthday wishes.

Mine? A voicemail message from Torii Hunter that goes something like this: “Yo, Skip. It’s T. You know all that stuff about me wanting to play near home in Texas … with Big Papi in Boston … in Chicago because they want me so bad … in New York where I could maximize my market value … in Washington with big ol’ Dmitri Young? That’s all words. There’s nothing I want to do more than be your center fielder (or DH) for as long as you want me. I called Billy Smith today and told him: ‘Three years, $45 million, option for 2 more seasons at $17.5 each. I’m your’s.’ I know it’s a little below market, but you guys stuck with me when I was young and struggling and, after all, how much do I really need? And what I really want is that you be sitting in a dugout managing on your 51st. See ya at bowling next week.”

What’s your birthday wish for Gardy?
