Several new nicknames (including one that I stole)
Posted on March 1st, 2008 – 2:33 PMBy Howard
I read today that the new infielder, Brendan Harris, likes his politics and even has a degree in political science. Nice to know, although I’m much more concerned about his range in the field than his stance on the issues. Still, JoeC let us know that toward the end of his story that Harris leans “heavily to the right” in his political views. Therefore, be it resolved, that he shall heretofore be known in Section 220 as Mitt Harris. As in: “Just field the friggin’ ball, Mitt.”
Further, the blogger Karlee at omg mn twins is so enthused by Boof Bonser’s weight loss that she has offered up the name “Oof Onser” in tribute to how much of Boof is no longer there. After referring to him as the Boofeteria last season, Section 220 will refer to his slimmed-down self as Oof.
Listening to Gordo ‘n’ Gladden today, they described Carlos Gomez‘ first-inning steal off Jon Lester as a thing of magic. He singled and took off against the lefty Lester and stole second without much of a challenge. The broadcasters, perhaps trying to make us feel a bit better about the Johan trade, pointed out that Gomez is supposedly faster than Jose Reyes, who stole 78 bases for the Mets last year. If he’s that fast, he needs to be called Carlos Gogomez, right?

Love the nicknames Howard.
Mitt, Oof and Gogomez it is.
go go gadget gogomez!
i like it.
Those are good. Especially Gogomez!
Another nickname? As a Seinfeld fan, I’ve been waiting to see Kevin “Dolores” Mulvey make his Twins debut.
I like the “Boofwagon” myself. As in, “Come on everybody, hop on the Boofwagon, Huzzah!”

Nevermind.
Howard thanks for that lovely shout out.
And yes, it’s fine you can use Oof. It just fits. plus the whole minnesotan accent whenever he does something good (like ya know, strike someone out)
You can say “OOFTAH!”
Oh, I’m such a card.
haha.
OOFTA
Boof-less, mini-boof, booooooo……..f
gotta say that I’m always on the lookout for new nicknames and those will likely suit me just fine! At least until something new happens with an individual player that seems to take priority for reference.
Congrats Howard, you get my first post of the 2008 season.
How about ‘Buff’ Bonsor, And for Carlos how about just ‘Mez’, cause the ‘Go’s’ already already gone!!
I can’t believe I went through an entire year of Bonser being large and DIDN’T call him Beef Bonser. “Beef” is just a great nickname. And now I’ve missed it.
Hmmm…
If Oof starts receiving some anonymous boxes of Crispy Cremes sent to him, you’ll know who to blame.
LOVE Gogomez! But is there really a better nickname out there than Boof? Even if it’s his legal name? …my mom would be so mad if I changed my name to Boof.
Geek…Crispy Cremes? I know the Twins’ budget constraints, but does that mean they only get discount store Krispy Kreme knock-offs?
If if Boof/Oof/Buff is like Oprah or most big guys like me, there’s a good chance the “Beef” opportunity will recur at some point and probably just as likely sooner than later.
where is the boof?
Screw the nicknames, I’m just ecstatic to know that Brendan Harris is a right-winger. He’s my new favorite ballplayer.
And TP, I feel precisely the opposite. Now how can I root for him?
I wish I hadn’t found out…….
