More reasons to like Pat Neshek … or more meat for Roger and me

Pat’s latest blog entry includes this healthy nugget:
“Well to make a long story short for the past 2 months I have been total Vegan and feel better than ever. I’m not going to sit here and preach about why things are bad because it’s really a lifelong learning process and takes years to digest the simplest things about food and something that can’t be forced upon anyone. I’m pretty proud though that I made the change in my life and can avoid the garbage that is out there. This year will be tough though with our schedule and being on the road but I will be prepared and update you guys as to how I’m doing and what I do so I don’t have to eat Burger King or Popeye’s chicken ever again…and yes that was the meal after the last two road games I played in.”
Next up, Pat explains the vegan life to Roger Clemens.

So Neshek is a hippie huh? Is he going to be able to throw like he’s used to while only eating rabbit food?
By the way, have you seen his Twins Commercial which should start airing soon? I have a copy and it is absolutely hilarious! What a great sport!
I got a fever and the only thing that will cure it is moreā¦.
Hey Robert, famed baskekball center Bill Walton was a vegetarian.
Nothing “hippie” about good nutrition.
Gee I hope that i can grow up to be as hansome as him;;;
Bill Walton is a huge hippie…not sure if you were trying to be sarcastic or not, but I just thought I’d throw that out there…
Sorry, Jackrabbitt. Didn’t mean to insult all the hippie fans of Walton.
Vegans can eat chicken and fish, right?
Hippie John Lennon once said that people should lighten up cuz a can of coke every once in a while wouldn’t hurt anyone.
So I hope Pat Neshek doesn’t poke himself with sticks if he has to have a little KFC or fresh roast beef sandwich.
God…….I’m hungry……..
romer,
Vegans don’t consume or use animal products of any kind. That’s why Neshek wears a plastic glove and throws the ol’ hemphide.
That commercial is hilarious!
Ha! So Neshek’s nickname won’t be Chicken Shack?
I read it first in a Steve Rushin column, I think. Anyway, a South Dakota rancher said it something like this: “If animals aren’t meant to be eaten, then why are they made out of meat?”
Not that I really care what any player chooses as a form of nutrition, but why are people so insulting about Neshek’s choice? What difference is it to any of us if he chooses to be a vegan? If he believes it will make him a better, more durable player, more power to him. Nowhere is he advocating it for everyone or trying to rub it in anyone’s face. He feels it will work for HIM. Is that somehow threatening to some of you?
rpar: I agree, but it is a sad commentary on our society that people seem to fear/insult people that are different than them somehow. Not sure why people get glee from that, but they do.
